World Hand Hygiene Day

World Hand Hygiene Day

Every year, Dr. Schumacher supports the International Day of Hand Hygiene, which was established in 2009. The date "5.5." symbolizes the human hands with the five fingers (five plus five). The annual World Health Organization (WHO) Hand Hygiene Day campaign "SAVE LIVES: Clean Your Hands" emphasizes the importance of proper hand hygiene, especially for healthcare.

Hand hygiene is a fundamental protection against infections because many pathogens are transmitted by hand. Regular hand washing and effective hand disinfection are considered as crucial measures to prevent infectious diseases.

"Everyday we deal with the latest developments in hygiene and disinfection. That´s why we know about the importance of hand hygiene", explains Managing Director Jens Schumacher. "The World Day of Hand Hygiene is always a great opportunity to actively draw people´s attention to this topic."
