Skin sanitiser for effective skin disinfection

Skin disinfection is first and foremost the effective disinfection of different areas of the skin. The aim of skin disinfection is to prevent and avoid the spread of germs during injections, punctures, medical or surgical procedures and invasive procedures. Disinfectants for skin disinfection are available as a spray or as a liquid to be applied with sterile swabs or pads.

Rapid skin disinfection in healthcare

In healthcare and medical facilities, skin disinfectants are one of several disinfectants used. In addition to skin disinfection, effective hand disinfection is also required. The focus here is on effective and rapid hygiene. For skin and hand disinfection, rapid disinfection with a short contact time is essential in everyday medical practice. At the same time, a broad spectrum of activity is required to effectively inactivate bacteria and viruses and prevent infection. In addition to effective hand disinfectants, Dr Schumacher also offers alcohol-based skin disinfectants. Both products for hand and skin disinfection have a short contact time and are easy to use.

Skin disinfectant suitable for all types of skin

If a skin disinfectant is used for hygiene, for example for an injection or puncture, the correct exposure time must be observed. The exposure time of skin disinfectants varies depending on the area of the skin. Skin disinfection with a skin antiseptic requires a longer time in some areas of the body than in others to be fully effective.

Human skin differs in its properties and texture depending on the region of the body. The times required for skin disinfection until the ready-to-use skin antiseptic is fully effective are also different. For the arm area, for example, the duration is shorter than for the chest area.

The sebaceous gland density of the individual body regions is decisive for the required duration. A higher number of sebaceous glands per cm² of skin means that more germs are present in this area and resident microorganisms are more prevalent. For this reason, a longer exposure time of the skin disinfectant is necessary in order to be fully effective. Areas of the body with a high number of sebaceous glands include the head, chest and spine, axillae, and genital and anal regions.

The right solution for every application

As one of Europe's leading disinfectant manufacturers, Dr Schumacher offers a wide range of disinfectants for skin, hands, surfaces and medical instruments. Specifically for colourless skin disinfection, Dr. Schumacher offers a colourless skin antiseptic for preoperative use. The colourless skin antiseptic is free of cumulative long-term active ingredients or other additives. It is particularly well tolerated by the skin, and is therefore particularly suitable for disinfecting the skin of people with sensitive skin and allergies.

Other skin disinfection products are available in two variants. The colourless skin disinfectant is free of residual active ingredients, phenols and QAV. The coloured version is a coloured skin disinfectant for spraying and dabbing. It can also be used for skin disinfection prior to injections, incisions, punctures, blood sampling, catheterisation and minor medical procedures. The product is free of residual active ingredients, phenols and QAV. It is also filtered to be spore free.

For more than 40 years, Dr. Schumacher has been developing highly effective products for hand disinfection, cleaning, skin care, surface disinfection and medical instrument disinfection.
